My passion was sitting in me for a long time, but once still broke out. I like to do unusual things, and I always liked modding as a means of self-expression. A few years ago, I was inspired by modern products from different countries and began to think about several of my projects. In particular, I really wanted to make a keyboard stylized under the nineteenth century.
After examining the work of such well-known modests as Filimon and Datamancer, I began to work. Immediately I want to say that although I do not complain about the complete absence of imagination, but I like to get a predictable result. Therefore, before taking care of the tool, I tried to simulate what I want to get in the end. Another feature of this project is that all the software I used in the work is open and free: OS - Debian Testing, Software - Blender, Librecad, Inkscape.
Since my idea was to make a keyboard in a wooden case, first of all, I needed to know the sections of the wooden billets that I need. Carefully measuring the donor keyboard, I sat down for the drawing and modeling.
Drawing two-dimensional projections, I began to model in 3D.
So, the appearance of the device has fallen and it is time to embody it in a tree and brass. As a case of the case, the ash was chosen and oak veneer for overlaps.
The donor keyboard in the final should be between two veneered plates from MDF. The landing places of the keys were thoroughly simulating and based on the data was drawn up in Librecad. According to it, holes in the MDF plate will be cut.

Green LEDs are deleted and larger les, giving warm, lamp glow, were in their place. In order for the LEDs look still warmer and lamps, a brass lining was made for them.

As for the keys themselves, I had an option to make them out of buttons, but I decided that it was not a Tru. Therefore, the round keys were sharpened from a brass bar, and oblong - knocked out of the brass plate.
Separately, the "Space" key was made. It consists of three dummy blanks.
The layers on the keys were cut from black glossy plastic. Letters and symbols are applied using laser engraving.
After all the preparatory work, the details were carefully sashbars, were stolen, opened by several layers of simulats and were bauble (also in several layers). After the assembly, everything began to look something like that.
