The internal structure of the gas column is quite complex and is represented by a variety of details. One of them is a water unit, which is also called a water gearbox, a water node, a water regulator or a frog. It is located inside the column in front of the heat exchanger and is responsible for regulating the operating column depending on the flow of water into the apparatus.

Depending on the material of manufacturing, the water unit happens:
- Brass, that is, made from copper alloy with zinc. Brass is often used in the creation of sanitary devices.
- Plastic. Such a node is very practical and has a long service.
- Polyamide. Additional durability of such a block is provided by fiberglass present in its composition.

Principle of operation
The main task of the water node in the gas heater is to start the column after opening the crane, as well as provide its normal operation until the crane is open. Also, this node is important for regulating the flow of incoming water. If the water pressure is insufficient, the gearbox will also perform a protective function, preventing overheating of the column.
The functioning of the water node is the effect of water flow on the gearbox parts. The water entering the column affects the diaphragm, as well as to the disk (it is also called fungus). The change in their location affects the rod, which activates the valve of the gas unit, which begins to flow gas to the burner.
As soon as the hot water fauce is closed, the pressure acting on the diaphragm and fungus decreases. This reduces the impact on the gas valve, which leads to overlapping gas access and disconnecting the device. When the gas column is not turned on, the water node does not function.

- The diaphragms (membranes) with a disk fixed on the rod (plate).
- Flow regulator.

Typical malfunctions
The vehicle breakdown is considered one of the most common faults in gas water heaters. The most common cause of the output of the block is deformed or contamination of the membrane. Salt can be postponed on it, as well as the formation of cracks. With such damage, the node ceases to function, which prevents gas access in the column.
Also, a rather frequent problem is clogging of the water reducer filters, and due to the frequent turning on and off, the unit is wearing, which leads to leaks at the location of the seals.
You must check the water node if:
- The water pressure is normal, and the column does not turn on (the membrane is damaged or the rod contaminated).
- The pressure of the cold water is normal, and the hot goes with a very weak pressure (a block formed).
- The crane of hot water is open, and the column began to work only after a while (the problem with the flow controller).
- The hot water crane is closed, but the column works for a while (problem with flow control).
- The column is turned off during operation or does not gain the necessary power (damaged the membrane).
Repair and service
In order for the gas column to function properly, the water assembly is periodically disassembled and clean, as well as inspect for timely detection of deformation and small cracks. Replacing the membrane in the water reducer is recommended even with the slightest deformation of this part.
Turning off the column from the water and gas supply, you need to open the crane of hot water to reset the pressure. After that, it is necessary to remove the casing of the device and find the water gearbox on the cold water pipe. By revealing the fixing item to the pipes of the nut and the fixing gear to the gas node of the screws, the controller can be removed.
To open it, the bolts arranged in a circle are unchecked, which hold its two parts (usually eight). After examining the membrane and body, perform the required manipulations (cleaning, replacement), after which the node is assembled and mounted in its place inside the column. It is important not to confuse the connection of the nozzles (the diameter of the input should be greater). You should also make sure of sufficient sealing of all connections.
